The US Connection
On the 18th of June we moved back to Oslo, after more than five rewarding and fascinating years in the US. We now have
so many good friends in the US, and we will do our best to keep in touch each and every one of them after the move. Hopefully,
this unpretentious web site will serve this purpose by providing updated information on our little family.
Moving back to Norway
We used the last couple of weeks in the US to travel by car to Florida, focusing mainly on Orlando and Miami. On
our way south we visited Outer Banks/Ocracoke Island, NC, and Myrtle Beach, SC, and in Norfolk/Virginia Beach we
stayed with our friends Kim, Paul and Dennis Engebretsen. The car television set we borrowed from them made travel with two
small kids much easier.
The last day and night before departure from the US we stayed with our friends
Jane and Thor Lassen in Great Falls, VA. They generously helped us with the last hectic tasks and waived goodbye at Dulles
Intl Airport.
In Norway
During the first week in Norway Karina was in Oslo, while Ellen, Ida and I stayed with Rune's folks in Høvåg (close to
Kristiansand S). Karina miraculously managed to secure part time day care for both Ellen Elisabeth and Ida Marie (school starts
medio August), and I bought a nice red FIAT station wagon. We reunited in the Skien area, Karina's home town.
Before receiving our stuff from Westbard Avenue we need to get rid of most of what I left behind in Ullevålsveien six
years ago and also repaint a couple of rooms. I'm now engaged in fixing up the appartment after Karina and the childen left
Oslo today (July 15) to stay with relatives in Skien for some days.
Yesterday we received wonderful news: Karina was offered a very interesting and attractive job. Actually, she got the
first position she applied for! She won in competition with many candidates.
This fall we'll most probably switch roles: I will have the privilege and pleasure of working as a home maker, taking
care of Ellen and Ida, combined with studies at Oslo University.
In Oslo we have met with good friends from the DC area:
- Toril and Jarle Harstad. Their appartment is in walking distance from where we live.
- Ann Christin Boley. She and Karina revisited Oslo by night.
- Herbert Larrazabal, Monika Rybacka and Monika's sister Marta visited us 3-10 July. We had a lot of fun, visiting the
sights.
